Milk Magazine
Graphic design, art and creative direction for a student magazine.
Produced for my third year module, Magazines and Project Management – a work experience style module in which students work on Bath Spa University’s alternative publication, milk magazine (in print or online). My role was as Art and Creative Director, responsible for designing the 2018 print issue which was later shortlisted in the Stack Awards 2018 for Student Magazine of the Year.
To engage the target audience this edition of milk challenged what a student magazine could, or should be by probing controversial topics that affect students and the wider community, as opposed to solely glorifying university life. I proposed a redesign which involved a new colour scheme, an altered logo and a magazine driven by photography and graphic type to represent milk’s new attitude.
"I’m really, really impressed. I like the way you’ve provided so much variety with only a few elements and how confident the layout appears. The text handling is superior to many established magazines we have in Magalleria, and the way images move on the page without upsetting the schematic whole is something to behold. It’s easily one of the best student magazines we’ve seen!"
